Political Affairs Office

The political office has its headquarters in both Tbilisi and Sukhumi. Efforts to further the peace process are led by the Special Representative of the Secretary General who meets regularly with both sides to the conflict and also works closely with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (the OSCE), the Group of the Friends of the Secretary General, which consists of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Russian Federation and the United States of America, and with other relevant organizations. All these organizations endeavour to bring a peaceful political resolution to the conflict and ensure a dignified return of the internally displaced persons to their pre-war homes.
