SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS MANDATE OF
UN MISSION IN GEORGIA

On 13 April 2007, the Security Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) until 15 October 2007.
Unanimously adopting resolution 1752 (2007), the Security Council, welcoming progress achieved by both sides towards the implementation of resolution 1716 (2006), called on the Georgian side to ensure that the situation in the upper Kodori valley was in line with the Moscow agreement on ceasefire and separation of forces of 14 May 1994. It called on the Abkhaz side to exercise restraint in connection with the Georgian commitments with regard to the Kodori valley.

I am happy and honoured to send you my warmest wishes on International Women's Day - my first one as Secretary-General of the United Nations. This day is an opportunity for all of us - women and men - to unite in a cause that embraces all humankind. Empowering women is not only a goal in itself. It is a condition for building better lives for everyone on the planet.

UNOMIG QUICK IMPACT PROJECTS

In order to facilitate the work of UNOMIG, in November 2002 the Secretary-General established, within the general Trust Fund, a sub-account for UNOMIG Quick-Impact Projects (QIPs). The purpose of such a Fund was to receive contributions from Donors to enable the Special Representative of the Secretary General to pursue his good offices on the issue of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict.
